(If you're wondering why I chose to use 3 dots for a title, I couldn't make one.) Today, I somehow wondered if my efforts were in vain - be it from tumblr, facebook, skype, etc.
... I don't want to see someone kill themselves over petty reasons.
Now, I've actually come to know quite a lot of interesting, if not precious friends as a result of my efforts and I really want to keep doing it because it's not fun taking the easy way out.
Today, that. All. Changed.
Now, there's this game called Dangan Ronpa and one of its newest titles caused a bit of controversy - one where a fellow tumblr blogger and someone got into an altercation. As soon as I went over to that person's page to talk some sense, his entire feed was full of anons literally telling him to go kill himself. My original intention gone, my mind went straight into drive to try and reach out but alas, it seemed s/he was on a downward spiral and the last message confirmed my worst fears:
"fine be that way i am going to do it goodbye"
Next thing I knew, poof! Blog goes offline.
Right now, this marks the first time that I couldn't be able to reach out, but then again, I knew people wouldn't accept help sometimes. Looks like I ran into that person. And I know I shouldn't let it put me off but for some reason, it's starting to bother me. As if I really witnessed someone legitimately kill themselves. And right now, I just felt a bit disturbed, to be honest.
But enough about that. I'm just sitting here, wondering if I really haven't done what I wanted to do. Here's a BMW R bike for your time, I guess.

Hey man, you tried to reach out, and that is the best you could do in that situation.
I don't know exactly how tumblr works, but I'm guessing there aren't any sort of Moderators or Admins to contact. Unless you knew the person in real life, that was your utmost you could have done. You can grieve, but you cannot and should not regret. From what I've seen, a negative mob mentality like that is no easier stopped then a burst levy or a tornado. You cannot blame yourself for trying to throw down a sandbag or toss a lifeline and not succeeding. You can only hope that that person evaluated their offline life, and deemed it having more worth than the thoughts of a bag of sociopaths.
I'm sorry you feel like you couldn't do enough; it makes me sad too when I can't help more people too. :(

I think Crazedclay pretty much nailed it. Even if it sounds cold sometimes, "you can't rescue everyone". Sometimes you might get to them too late, sometimes there simply isn't anything you can do, but you keep trying. I never had to stage interventions of any kind, but I've had terminal patients pass under the care of medical teams I was interning at. Them most "shocking" of these cases was just 5 months old and beyond salvation due to lousy parental care. The poor thing was born to drug addled parents who lacked the money to feed themselves, contracted HIV and a host of other infections during labor, developed tuberculosis within a month of being born and was so malnourished at 5 months that most newborns weighed more than him. There was literally nothing that could be done...

While drunk with missing glasses I stopped a girl from throwing herself off a bridge. She returned the favor by burning a year's worth of my poetry and turning us all in for underage drinking the next day (thankfully political connections got us out of it, because we were holed up, post HS graduation, and not driving anywhere). Don't feel bad for what you do or don't do. All such efforts are honorable.

Hey, thanks for the Cafe racer. Can I borrow $20 for gas? I will not kill myself.

That's just a terrible irony, especially with the nature of Dangan Ronpa...
